The article above talks about the idea that
low-income individuals tend to be less healthy than those that have a larger
income. The reason for this is that, there is wide range of options to choose
from if you make more money due to where you reside. The lack of healthy foods
in rural areas is a very prevalent issue. This deprivation of healthy resources
is not only an issue at the very moment in which the individual is trying to
purchase food, but also has a lot of heath effects that can arise as a result
of a poor, unhealthy, diet.
The amount of healthy foods in low-income
communities is unfortunately very low. Forcing them to purchase foods in bulk
that are most of the time filled with lots of trans fat and unnecessary oils as
well as fast-food restaurants. At fast-food restaurants, a lot, if not all,
their food is frozen and full of saturated fats. This causes a very unhealthy
lifestyle and in the long run, potentially, death.
There was a study conducted that was
published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine in which increase of convenience
stores caused an increase of body max index. Another study that was conducted
correlated the notion that in lower-income individuals were more prone to
purchasing fast food due to the fact that it is most of the time, cheap.
Lastly, there is a section about prevention,
which talks about how to positively have a healthier lifestyle. One way is to
get a hold of a political figure so that changes can be made soon.
